What does the Triman logo mean?

Mandatory since January 2015, the Triman logo, present on products or their packaging, will not have escaped you. But what does this pictogram mean?

Objective: Improve waste sorting

The triman logo must appear on all products or their packaging for a little over a year: plastic, cardboard, etc. The objective is to force producers, distributors or importers in France to transmit an instruction to facilitate the sorting of waste.

Is the triman logo really compulsory?
Yes, through a legal obligation that forces companies to display the logo on all products, notices or packaging (including in some cases on dematerialized media such as websites). This French initiative, which stems from the Grenelle de l'environnement, aims to indicate to the consumer the recyclable packaging that is subject to a sorting instruction.

This Franco-French provision approved by the European Commission concerns household packaging for products manufactured in France or imported into France. The logo can be reproduced in black or in color at the choice of the manufacturer, and be accompanied by a message of sorting instructions.

How should the triman logo help us to sort out?

The logo can be found on recyclable packaging or parts of packaging such as boxes, packaging cartons, aerosols, plastic bottles or flasks, but also on their caps or lids. In the case of several packages or separable parts of packaging for the same product, either the Triman logo is present on each of the packages that are recyclable, or it appears on the package that is most directly in contact with the consumer with a message indicating which other packages are recyclable.

A will to clearly announce the steps to follow for a good management of sorting, and to motivate people who would avoid sorting because they do not know how to do: ease of understanding and transparency!

The Triman logo is not used on non-recyclable packaging or parts of packaging: plastic containers, make-up products, blister packs, etc. Glass is also excluded from the scheme.

By sorting, the consumer limits the volume of waste and therefore the cost of treatment.

But beyond this economic aspect, the environmental aspect is just as important. The sorting allows to save natural resources such as wood, oil, ore etc.

And concretely for the Green Seagulls, what commitment?

Les Mouettes Vertes is committed from the second half of 2016 to apply the mention of triman on all its projects. Transparency, information, support ... so many values to share around sorting and responsible production.

From the beginning of the school year, we will also relay on our website and more precisely on the product sheets information about the triman and the way the product can be recycled.

The deployment of the Triman logo in 2022

The AGEC law against waste and the circular economy voted in February 2020 marks an important step for the TLC sector (Textile, Clothing, Household linen & Footwear) resolutely committed to sustainable development.

In this transformation, companies like Les Mouettes Vertes play a key role and must take concrete initiatives.
The textile sector is increasingly circular and responsible. It respects seven main principles established by the AGEC law, including the deployment of the Triman logo.

To simplify sorting rules and encourage citizens to sort, the AGEC law reinstates the Triman pictogram that came into effect in 2015.
Simple and clear, the Triman logo is now accompanied by an explanatory sentence.

As of January 1, 2022, the Triman logo must be present on the product or its packaging, or, failing that, in other documents supplied with the product.
