What are menstrual panties?

As comfortable as conventional panties, menstrual panties are used during menstruation. Mouettes Vertes menstrual panties are super-functional: anti-moisture, anti-odour and anti-leakage.
They come with two levels of protection: normal flow and heavy flow.
Elegant, comfortable, odorless and waterproof, the menstrual panties come in a range of colors. You can also add lace to the waistband and thighs, or choose fancy patterns.

Practical and discreet, menstrual pants are a totally effective alternative to disposable protection.

Our menstrual pants are washable and reusable. They offer incredible comfort and total discretion under clothing. It's uncompromising protection you'll find among our textilehygiene products.

How menstrual panties work

Menstrual panties are recommended for all women who want to do without sanitary towels, tampons or menstrual cups.

Menstrual pants can be used on their own or in conjunction with sanitary protection if you have very heavy periods or are worried about leaks.

Period panties are 100% zero-waste protection for every stage of your life: from your first period to menopause, post-partum or as a complement to internal protection for heavier flows.

How long can menstrual pants be worn? ?

The menstrual panties we sell last between 8 and 12 hours, the equivalent of 3 to 4 regular tampons or pads.

Menstrual underwear lasts between 5 and 7 years, much like conventional underwear.

Our menstrual pants are super comfortable and absorbent.

Is there a risk of leakage ?

Elegant, odorless, waterproof and comfortable, menstrual briefs are ideal for use in cases of bladder weakness or incontinence.

Menstrual briefs can be worn all day without any risk of leakage, as long as you choose the right model:

  • Normal-flow panties absorb the equivalent of one to two tampons and are ideal for days of light to medium flow.
  • Abundant flow" panties absorb the equivalent of three to four tampons.

There's no lasting sensation of dampness.

What are menstrual panties made of? ?

The composition of our products is at the heart of our work.
Our menstrual briefs are perfectly healthy. They're made from GOTS-certified organic cotton jersey, in contact with your skin and your intimacy.
They contain no chemicals or controversial substances.

What's more, the bottom placket is made from a combination of materials to meet the specific needs of menstruation (bamboo for its absorbent, anti-odour and antibacterial properties, and a waterproof material to prevent leaks).
The potential addition of lace at the waist and thighs can give the panty a refined finish.

These period panties look just like classic panties! But with added functionality!
Period panties are multi-layered, to protect you for a continuous 12 hours.

We guarantee the safety of our fabrics and the total absence of toxic molecules.

Are menstrual panties discreet? ?

Menstrual panties are very easy to use.
They're almost invisible, even under tight-fitting pants or dresses.

Menstrual panties resemble classic women's underwear.
In the coming months, Les Mouettes Vertes intends to devote itself to the development of other cuts such as shortys, tangas and boxer shorts.
These developments will enable us to extend our product range, capitalizing on the combination of materials and bottom flaps that we have validated on our initial panty shape.

We'll also be working on new stylistic proposals: colors, lace and other differentiating details.
Last but not least, we're thinking very seriously about strengthening our menstrual protection range by developing organic, washable panty liners and sanitary towels made in France!

Why is buying menstrual pants environmentally friendly? ?

The massive sale of over-packaged hygiene products, rich in chemical components, has a considerable ecological impact. According to the book Flow: The Cultural History of Menstruation, it is estimated that 150 kilograms of menstrual waste are thrown away in the course of a menstruating woman's lifetime.

While the purchase of a set of menstrual panties represents a real investment compared to that of a simple box of tampons, it is no less a profitable purchase.

As part of a more responsible and ethical zero-waste lifestyle, our menstrual panties, which allow women to remain free in their movements, are a precious and incomparable ally.

On average, you should have three to four pairs of menstrual pants to cover your entire cycle.

What are the advantages of menstrual panties? ?

The advantages of menstrual panties are numerous:

- Comfort: Pleasant to wear, our panties promise 12-hour protection without odor or moisture.
- Organic and fair trade: No chemical inputs, traceability of cotton manufactured according to fair trade rules.
- Ecological: A woman throws away an average of 14,000 sanitary pads in her lifetime.
Menstrual panties are a zero-waste alternative to include in your hygiene routine.
- Machine-washable: estimated lifespan of 5 years.

Can menstrual panties be worn at night? ?

Particularly suitable for night-time use, our menstrual panties offer maximum protection.
Sleep soundly with our menstrual panties.
Our menstrual panties are fragrance-free. Its mode of action is very simple. Blood is drained by the first cotton fabric into the bamboo sponge fabric, which absorbs and retains fluids. The last fabric is waterproof, preventing leakage even when you move around a lot at night.
When you wake up in the morning, simply put on another pair of period pants - they can be used alternately.
For all-night peace of mind, choose menstrual pants for heavy flow.

How many menstrual pants do you need to buy to have enough? ?

It all depends on how you intend to use your menstrual panties.
At first, you may be happy to buy 1 or 2 pairs to complement your other pads.
If your menstrual panties are perfectly suited to your intended use, it's best to own 3 or 4 different ones, so you can rotate them throughout your cycle.

Since the creation of this textile workshop, 25 people have been recruited to work on our Made in France textile projects.
Significant investments have been made. In fact, we have acquired dedicated machines to enable our menstrual panties to be perfectly functional.

If you've launched your menstrual panties in a faraway manufacture, you can relocate your production for a 100% made in France, in our Mayenne workshop.

How do I wash my period panties?

The steps to follow to thoroughly clean your menstrual panties are as follows:

  • Rinse the menstrual panties in cold water for 2 minutes until the water runs clear.
  • Wash your menstrual panties in the washing machine with the rest of your clothes.
There's nothing to worry about: your menstrual panties won't stain your other clothes.

To prolong the life of your menstrual pants, choose a hypoallergenic detergent and avoid fabric softener, which reduces absorption efficiency.

Set your machine program to 30°.

Avoid using a program at too high a temperature, as the heat fixes blood or any organic stains on clothes.

Aggressive detergents and chemical detergents can also damage fibers and absorption capacities. That's why we recommend using natural-based detergents.

  • Finally, menstrual pants are air-dried. As you can see, menstrual panties don't like heat. The radiator or tumble dryer should be avoided.
