The essential characteristics of made in France
The rules of "Made in" are not the same from one country to another. The rules are defined by country. There are some countries for which these rules are much more flexible (e.g.: "Made In Italy" simply means that the packaging was made in Italy). Two conditions must apply for a product to be Made in France
- The customs code must change between imports and exports
- The proportion of added value in France must be at least 50%.
In the case of Mouettes Vertes, this proportion includes the time spent making the garments at the Atelier des Mouettes and the added value linked to the creative part (design office and sales team are located in Paris)
Is manufacturing in France still possible?
The tricolor label is more than trendy! Indeed, consumers are asking for more and more quality and authenticity. They want to promote France, or even their region.
Is buying French so easy in 2021?
Whether it's for household appliances, toys or even clothing, stores in France all offer a large majority of products from Asia. Since 2013, 60 millions de consommateurs has highlighted several articles proving frequent usurpation of the French label: Gare aux tricheurs du Made in France. The fact is that the "made in" principle reflects the place where the product acquires its main characteristic. For example, a recipe made of Brazilian chicken, Chinese spices and Italian pasta can be considered as made in France. From then on, it becomes difficult to identify and consume products made in France by reading a single label. At a time when there is a lack of production sites in France, 100% made in France is almost impossible in many sectors, such as textiles, mechanics or electronics. In 30 years, more than 2 million industrial jobs have disappeared. And yet, the products are imagined, designed and assembled according to French know-how.
To meet its production constraints lacking in France, the label "Origine France Garantie" offers an interesting alternative. It certifies that the products take their essential characteristic in France, and implies in particular that more than 50% of the added value is realized in France.

Les Mouettes Vertes: producing organic cotton as close as possible to the crop
Since 2005, Les Mouettes Vertes have chosen an ethical manufacturing process above all, and the first bags made of organic cotton were made in India. Controlling the production chain of organic cotton and having the French creations made in a workshop close to the harvests was the priority set by Françoise from the beginning of the activity.
Working with GOTS organic cotton also meant being able to guarantee the farmers quality environmental and social conditions. Finally, to place the respect of the nature and the men in thread since the beginning of Les Mouettes Vertes.
If the Mouettes Vertes have always developed the made by France, since a few years, they also propose made in France.
Les Mouettes Vertes : Producing in France accessories made of recycled materials or vegetable leather
For a few years now, in addition to organic cotton bags, Les Mouettes Vertes has been offering accessories made from recycled materials and manufactured in France.
Recycled case made in France
The first project was carried out in 2013 for the organic cosmetics brand Fun Ethic, founded by Martine and Olaf, two entrepreneurs concerned with ethics and the environment. For their Mother's Day program, they wanted to offer a kit that would give new life to an existing material and that would be transformed in social integration workshops in France.
With Olaf and Martine's specifications in mind, we set out in search of materials to recycle or reclaim. The film below traces the itinerary of this kit through our French regions.
Made in France at L'Atelier des Mouettes
Located in Laval, our own workshop employs about twenty seamstresses who put all their textile know-how to the benefit of various companies.
L'Atelier des Mouettes is an eco-responsible workshop that manufactures menstrual panties, reusable make-up remover wipes, menstrual panties, fabric tote bags and customizable kits.
At Les Mouettes Vertes, we combine Made In France and Made By France. The two approaches complement each other, one serves the other. The main thing is to keep the same concern for ethics and the environment in everything we do.
Eco-responsible workwear made in France
In 2016, French clothing at Les Mouettes Vertes rhymes with work clothes: vest, fleece, and apron made from organic cotton and recycled polyester. The material is woven and transformed in France within a 50km radius. The personalization of these articles is done by our printers and embroiderers located in Brittany.
Mon Zazoo : a collection of bags combining organic cotton canvas and vegetable tanned leather
The Mon Zazoo collection features bags with vegetable-tanned leather handles and a leather label embossed with the brand's name. The leather is sourced from France, and all work on the material is carried out in a ESAT (rehabilitation workshop) in Brittany. The Mon Zazoo collection presents a positive face of globalization: an Indian and French team participate in the development of the same product. Both parties excel in their respective fields. Mon Zazoo thus nurtures a social and environmental dynamic in both India and France.
